Job summary

The Red Hat Sales team is seeking an experienced sales engineer to join us as a Solutions Architect and support sales efforts for Red Hat JBoss Middleware. In this position, you will be the first in-depth experience our customers have with Red Hat, while creating possibilities, solving problems, and establishing working relationships. You'll discover and analyze our customers' business and technical needs, and collaborate with the Sales and Technical Delivery teams to help them invest wisely in the best solutions from across the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) product suite to give their systems maximum flexibility, allowing them to run faster and more efficiently. We'll need you to have a balance of serious technical expertise, a passion for open source, and a thorough understanding of business processes. As a Solutions Architect, you'll also need great communication and people skills, as you will present product features and benefits to rooms full of curious engineers and make solid business cases in closed-door meetings with C-level executives.

Primary job responsibilities
  • Provide pre-sales technical support for the development and implementation of customer applications
  • Answer technical portions of RFPs and RFIs
  • Use your extensive product knowledge to provide technical expertise to sales staff and customers through presentations and demonstrations of JBoss software products
  • Prepare detailed product specifications and educate prospective customers on the capabilities of JBoss software products
  • Present to potential customers on complex middleware solutions and design-value driven architectures, explaining the application and return on investment of those technology solutions
  • Deliver compelling recommendations that result in the closing of new sales
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of customers' business and IT environments, and collaborate with sales teams to assess the potential application of Red Hat products
  • Communicate value, progress, and status of sales opportunities to all stakeholders, and share knowledge and findings to allow team members to learn from your successes and mistakes
Required skills
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of Java programming experience
  • 5+ years of JEE programming experience with application servers like JBoss, Weblogic, Websphere, etc.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Good presentation skills to small and large groups of mixed business, technical, and management audiences
  • Knowledge of application architecture (MVC, model-2, patterns, JDBC, CVS, build management, etc.)
  • Knowledge of enterprise architecture (UNIX, RDBMS, MOM, LDAP, clustering, etc.)
  • Pre-sales or sales engineering experience is a plus, but not required
  • Fluent English language skills
  • Willingness to travel
